Versatile TV Stands

Walker Edison, a well-known manufacturer of high quality furniture, is now offering a complete line of versatile TV stands. The stands are refered to as 4-in-1 because of the four set-up possibilities: A flat-panel TV can be mounted directly on the stand, the mount can be removed from the stand and used as a wall mount and the stand used for the A/V components, the stand can simply be used as a traditional TV stand with A/V components below and the fourth option is to use the wall mount for a flat-screen TV  in one location while the stand is used for a traditional TV in another.

Such versatile TV stands are a great choice for many people in many different situations. For instance, if you currently own a traditional TV but plan on getting a flat screen sometime soon, one of these stands would fill your needs now and later. A TV stand like this is also perfect for people who like to occasionally re-arrange their furniture or for anyone who may possibly be moving in the near future.

These convertible TV stands are available in two sizes: 40 inch and 60 inch, and both sizes are available in several styles to match your décor. The 40-inch models will support up to 42 inch televisions on the stand and up to 52” when the wall mount is used. The 60 inch models will accommodate most flat-panel TVs up to 52″, and wall mounting is able to support flat panels up to 65″. All wall mounts can tilt plus or minus 15 degrees and pivot left and right to provide the best viewing angle.

Whether or not a 4-in-1 TV stand seems right for you at the moment, it could still be an excellent choice since it would allow you to adapt to changes in the future.

Explanation of the VESA TV Mounting Standards

    August 2, 2010 by admin · 1 Comment

As their name implies, the Video Electronics Standards Association, or VESA, sets standards for video components. These standards range from video connections that ensure compatibility between components to TV mounting that enables consumers to match a TV with a suitable mount.

TVs and mounts that meet VESA standards attach to each other with four screws in either a square or rectangular pattern. The patterns are usually referred to by the distance between the mounting holes in millimeters. A few examples are; 200 X 200, 400 X 400, 600 X 400 and 800 X 400.

VESA also sets standards for the size of the screws that are used. This means that all TVs and mounts with a 400 X 400 mounting pattern will use the same size screws and will work together. The screws are usually supplied with the mount but they may also be supplied with the TV, especially when the TV includes any type of table-top support or bracket.

Many VESA compliant TV mounts will fit a range of mounting patterns. This is a great feature if there’s a possibility that you might want a different size TV in the near future, or, if you have more than one TV of different sizes, you can move them from room to room.

By making sure that both the TV and the mount are VESA compliant, and have the same mounting pattern, you can be sure that your TV will attach to the mount without any problems.

I would like to add doors to my freestanding tv cabinet. Due to space constraints, I want to have doors that open and then slide back flat against the sides of the cabinet. I’ve heard of ‘flipper’ doors and checked out the hardware, but my tv cabinet doesn’t have ‘pockets’ to attach the flipper hinges to! Is there any way to get sliding doors for my tv cabinet without building pockets on the sides of my existing cabinet?

Oh, and please try and keep it cost friendly (I’m a college student). I might be willing to go as high as $800, but I would rather keep it below $600.

I’m looking for a tv armoire for my bedroom. It’s not a flat screen, it’s just a regular old 28 inch television. I need an armoire that’s a darker wood and less than about $500. I have a king size bed with a high foot board so I’m looking for one that will lift the tv about three to three and a half feet above the floor. I’ve checked around on many furniture sites but haven’t found anything for under $800. If you have any ideas, please let me know!

The top looks rather bare and I was thinking of putting a plant of some sort on the top. It can’t be too heavy as I don’t want it falling through! And would need to be easy to maintain. Would prefer something that would grow the length of the top of the entertainment center. I thought of ivy, but I had some and it died rather quickly. I did also have a philadendron on the top but it didn’t fare to well either. It’s still alive but prefers more light than it was getting. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Cheap ways to make a room look more modern

What are some cheap ways to make a room look more modern and contemporary? It is kind of a small bedroom (12×16) but I want it to look more modern. Can someone tell me some ways to achieve this? I have a wood dresser (I’m planning on painting it black and adding stainless steel curved handles), a glass TV stand, a beat up looking futon, ugly brown carpet (with damaged wood floors underneath) and sea-foam green walls. What can I do to change this room? What colors should I use and what accessories? Also I would appreciate it if someone had some links to cheap modern looking furniture (like stuff at Smartfurniture.com, but affordable lol). Thanks

I bought a wood tv stand on ebay but I want to paint it black and change the knobs to a brushed nickel. Do I need to prime it first? What kind of paint should I use? I don’t want a tacky shiny high gloss finish, but I don’t want it flat either. Should I use regular semi-gloss latex paint or spray paint?

Is there a way to stain or paint the veneer on an entertainment center?

I have a particle board entertainment center with a light beech wood-grain veneer finish that I got from Ikea. When I got it, all my furniture was Beech veneer.

Well now all my furniture is much much darker, but I haven’t found an entertainment center that I like as much as this one.

Is there anyway to stain or paint this to a darker color but still keep some of the wood grain?

Has anyone tried this? Any tips?
